About The Course

Edinburgh Lace Course

The first Edinburgh Lace Course was held in 1981. The course was founded by Kitty Mason and Sue Clark to offer lacemakers a week of tuition and the opportunity to develop their skills. Since then, the course has been run annually and, since 1986 has been held at Heriot-Watt University on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The course is suitable for all from complete beginners to more experienced bobbin lacemakers. With four tutors, we can offer a wide variety of techniques and will endeavour to accommodate requests.

The Venue offers well-lit and spacious workrooms, wi-fi, good parking, and a selection of cafes.

Following a successful course in 2023 we hope to run a similar course in 2024. The four tutors have a variety of experience so will be able to support those wishing to learn a range of styles of bobbin lace from the early steps of a beginner to the more experienced student developing their skills in particular techniques such as Bucks Point, Flanders and Binche, Milanese and Idrija Lace. For those wishing to create their own designs, help is on hand to start to bring your ideas to life.
